Procter & Gamble India Achieves Plastic Waste Neutrality: A Sustainable Milestone

 


In a groundbreaking move towards environmental sustainability, Procter & Gamble (P&G) India proudly announced its achievement of becoming a plastic waste neutral company in the fiscal year 2021-22. This significant milestone places P&G India among a select group of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) companies in the country that have successfully recycled 100% of post-consumer plastic packaging waste. The company, known for its powerhouse brands such as Ariel, Tide, Whisper, Gillette, Oral B, head & shoulders, and Vicks, has demonstrated its commitment to reducing its environmental footprint.



Recycling Success:



P&G India has surpassed expectations by collecting, processing, and recycling over 19,000 metric tons of post-consumer plastic packaging waste from various regions across the country. Remarkably, this quantity exceeds the amount of plastic packaging used in its products sold annually. Through collaboration with recycling partners in 75 cities across India, the company has efficiently redirected plastic waste to different recyclers, waste-to-energy plants, and cement kilns.



Setting Industry Standards


Joining the ranks of environmentally conscious FMCG companies like Dabur and Nestle India, P&G India's achievement reflects its dedication to sustainable practices. The commitment to plastic waste neutrality is a testament to the company's proactive approach in addressing the global issue of plastic pollution.


Future Initiatives:





Beyond plastic waste neutrality, P&G India is gearing up for further sustainability initiatives. The company has announced plans to establish two additional in-house solar plants at its manufacturing facilities in Goa and Mandideep (Madhya Pradesh). This expansion builds upon the success of the existing in-house solar plant inaugurated at its Hyderabad manufacturing site in 2021.
